Week of February 26

Read on to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music classes this week.

Kindergarteners played a singing game with a song called "Grizzly Bear" this week.  They really enjoyed this activity that helped them differentiate between piano (soft) and forte (loud).

First graders worked in groups this week to perform nursery rhymes.  Each performance included an element of movement, at least one instrument, and the students speaking or singing the rhyme.  They did a nice job working together and sharing their compositions.

Second graders sang a song called "Miss Sue" this week.  This song helped them review dynamic levels including pianissimo, piano, mezzo piano, mezzo forte, forte, fortissimo, crescendo, and decrescendo.  They also learned about macrobeat and microbeat through the performance of this piece.

Third and fourth graders learned movements for their fourth Spring Sing song this week.  They are doing a nice job with their concert music so far.  Students have been very interested in the historical figures they have been learning about in conjunction with their music.

Fifth graders continued practicing their recorder music this week.  They had their best week yet in terms of student recorder performances.  They worked very hard, and many students earned new recorder belts this week.
