Week of October 29

1st and 2nd grade informances are next week!  If you plan to attend your child's informance, please bring your driver's license and plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early in order to get your ID scanned.  If you would like to save time, you can stop by the office at some point before the informances, and Mrs. Goodkind will scan your license for you then.  If you are picking up or dropping off your child, that might be a good time to do this.  Once you are in the system, your ID should not need to be scanned again.  Please let Mrs. Goodkind know that you will be attending an informance, so she can add your name to the event in the computer and have your name tag pre-printed for you.

Kindergarteners played a couple of Halloween singing games this week.   They also performed a song called "One Finger, One Thumb," which allowed them to use creative movements.

First graders played a couple of Halloween singing games this week and reviewed the songs they will be sharing at their informances next week.  They are very excited for you to be a part of their classes!  Informances will take place at the following times:
Monday, 11/5
1 Sagat: 10:20-10:50
1 Ruiz: 10:50-11:20

Tuesday, 11/6
1 Bond: 11:20-11:50

Second graders did rhythmic and melodic dictation activities with a Halloween song this week.  They are very excited for you to come to their music classes next week!  Informances will take place at the following times:
Wednesday, 11/7
2 Meekhof: 1:10-1:40
2 Kenar: 1:40-2:10

Thursday, 11/8
2 Elman: 12:40-1:10

Third graders studied Modest Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" this week.  They learned that it was one of the first tone poems ever written, and they analyzed the form of the piece.  Several students said they want to go home and watch "Fantasia" because this song is featured in the movie!

Fourth graders began playing tests on their recorder music this week.  Many students earned their white belt, which is the belt they earn for successfully playing "Hot Cross Buns."  They tie their recorder belts to the bottom of their instruments when they earn them.  Students should be practicing for about five minutes each evening at home.

Fifth graders are working hard on their concert music.  Many students had recess rehearsals to help them get a better understanding of their instrument or dance parts.  Recess rehearsals will continue over the next several weeks.  All fifth graders should be practicing their songs at home.  They are still having a difficult time remembering some of the words, so they should review the lyrics using the lyric sheets they were given in class and the recordings, which can be found on the "Concert Music" section of this blog.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns: ecrutchfield@nssd112.org.
