Week of November 5

Thank you to all of the family members who came to the 1st & 2nd grade informances this week.  The students had a wonderful time sharing their learning with you!  Keep reading to find out about some of the highlights from your child's music classes this week.

Kindergarteners played seven different unpitched percussion instruments with a song this week.  They worked on instrument technique and knowing when to play and when to rest.  They also enjoyed playing two music games that helped them begin to recognize music symbols.

First graders were VERY excited to have their family members come be a part of our music class this week.  They completed a reflection activity about the informance after it was over, and some of the comments were really sweet.  "I want a unicorn, and I want an informance every day."  "The informance was so fun!"  "I loved dancing with my mom."  "My dad kept stepping on my toes."  Thank you for being a part of our special event!

Second graders were really excited to have their family members join us in our music class this week.  There were some great comments in their post-informance reflections.  "My mom was happy because she loves to dance."  "Can we do it again?"  "My dad was proud of me."  "My grandma said I know more music than her."  Thank you for being a part of our special event!

Third graders learned three new music games this week.  They enjoyed playing Instrument Family Go Fish, Composer Memory, and Fiddlesticks.  Each child played two of the three games this week and will play the third at another time.  These games helped them to review composers, instruments, and instrument families.

Fourth graders worked hard on their recorder music this week.  Students are working at their own pace, and they are encouraged to do their playing tests with a partner.  Almost all students, at one point or another, will need to retake a playing test on a song.  This is no reason to be upset.  It just means they need a little extra practice!  They are trying their best, and that is what is important.

Fifth graders continued working hard on their concert music this week.   They have enjoyed seeing how the whole show fits together, with all of the instrument parts, singing solos, and speaking parts.  Students are also doing a great job remembering to come to their recess rehearsals!
