Week of December 3

The 5th grade concert is coming up next week!  WT students will see it performed on Monday during the school day, and the evening performance is Wednesday at 6pm at Wayne Thomas.  Some of the younger kids have asked if they can go.  Everyone is welcome to attend the evening concert, entitled "Broadway Now."

Kindergarteners composed movements to a song called "The Snowman."  They used Boomwhackers to accompany their singing on this piece.  They discovered that the larger a Boomwhacker is, the lower it sounds.

First graders performed a circle dance called "Shoemaker's Dance" this week.  They discovered that it is in ABC form, meaning there are three different sections of music and movements.  They really enjoyed an activity called "Deteggtive Anderson," where they play unpitched percussion instruments while following along with "Deteggtive Anderson" on the board.  He jumped on various colored eggs, and they needed to play their instrument when he was on their color egg.

Second graders played Music Symbol Twister this week.  This game was funded through a Foundation Grant from the 112 Education Foundation.  They also began singing a song called "Rocky Mountain."

Third graders began studying "March" from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" this week.  They discovered that the song is in ABACABA form, also known as Rondo.  (The "A" section comes back after every single other section of music.)  They began learning movements for each section of the song, and they will be putting them all together next week.

Fourth graders did a better job with their recorder practicing this week.  Many students advanced on to their next songs.  They take great pride in earning their recorder belts!

Fifth graders had their full grade level concert rehearsal this week.  They were excited to see all the pieces come together.  There are instrument parts, singing solos, speaking parts, and dancing parts.  Their assembly is on Monday during the school day, and the evening performance is Wednesday at 6:00 at Wayne Thomas.  If your child needs an extra copy of the information sheet that was sent home last week, they are available on the table outside the music room.
