Keep reading to learn some of the highlights from your child's music classes this week.
Kindergarteners acted out the story of Harold Finds a Voice and used unpitched percussion instruments to play the sounds in the book.
First graders learned about call and response form this week. They played a singing game with a song called "Penny, Key, and Paper Clip." They also listened to several different songs in call and response form and compared and contrasted them.
Second graders worked on a song about pizza in honor of last week's National Pizza Week celebration. They used body percussion and unpitched percussion instruments and performed the song in a canon. They also began to compose tunes for the song.
Third graders assessed their recordings of "Dance for the Nations" this week. Each child listened to his own recording and completed a rubric. I conferenced with every student, and we set a singing goal for each child to work toward. They enjoyed hearing their voices on the recordings.
Fourth graders have completed their recorder unit in class. Any student who wishes to continue testing for belts can set up a time to test with me when they have their next song prepared. Fourth graders were very excited to play Note Name Twister in music this week.
Fifth graders began a song called "Getting Around" this week. They analyzed the music and discovered that it is in ABAC form, and they began performing it on Boomwhackers.
