It was great to have a full week of school! Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music classes this week.
Kindergarteners read a book called Good News, Bad News. They used movement props and unpitched percussion instruments to bring the story to life. We discussed how some of the instruments create sounds typically associated with "good news," and some create sounds that sound more like "bad news." They worked to play the good and bad sounds with their instruments and show the sounds through their movements and use of props.
First graders performed a folk dance called "The Noble Duke of York." They enjoyed dancing with partners, and they especially liked going through the "bridge" created by their classmates.
Second graders completed their compositions about pizza this week. Students worked very hard preparing these songs, and each group performed for the class.
Third and fourth graders learned their second concert song this week. They should be practicing their first two songs with the singing and movements every evening. All recordings and lyrics are available on the "Concert Music" section of this blog.
Fifth graders reviewed the letter names of the notes on the treble clef staff by playing a game called Staff Wars. They also began playing their recorders. All students should have a home recorder and a school recorder. Any child who needs a new recorder can bring $3.50 to purchase a new one.
