All 4th & 5th grade recorder orders are due by next Tuesday, September 17!
Kindergarteners learned about their four voices this week. They discovered that each person has singing, speaking, shouting, and whispering voices. They used these voices to perform various songs and stories throughout the week. They also worked on being good audience members as they watched their classmates perform for them.
First graders learned the names of each of the Orff instruments this week. They enjoyed performing several familiar nursery rhymes on the instruments, and they worked on playing low to high and high to low sounds with a book called Mortimer.
Second graders learned that a pentatonic scale has five different pitches: do, re, mi, sol, and la. They set up their Orff instruments in C-pentatonic, and they started improvising ideas for the first phrase of their "Peas Porridge Hot" class composition.
Third graders created videos of themselves performing five different instrument parts this week. They progressively got better in each video, which they were excited to realize. They will self-assess their video performances next week.
Fourth graders learned that a triplet has three sounds on one beat. They learned the purpose of a meter sign and performed many rhythms containing triplets. Students enjoyed singing and playing instruments to "The Triplet Song." ALL 4th graders must turn in recorder order forms by next Tuesday, September 17. Please see the form for more information.
Fifth graders performed movements for their third concert song, "Part of Your World," and they began singing their fourth song, "Love Is An Open Door." Students should be practicing their Concert Music each night at home. Any 5th grader who needs to order a new recorder or two must turn in a recorder order form by next Tuesday, September 17.
