First, second, third, and fifth graders had a chance to take a look at the Wayne Thomas Music blog this week in class. They should be able to show you sections of the site that you may be interested in and sections that they might want to take a look at (with your permission, of course!)
Kindergarteners worked on finding the steady beat in lots of different songs. They also enjoyed moving creatively to music.
First graders learned about call and response form using the songs "The Penny, Key, and Paper Clip," "Everybody Oughta Know," "John the Rabbit," and "Tshotsholoza," a work song from South Africa.
Second graders learned a canon called "Icicles." They dictated the rhythm with popsicle sticks and will be doing more with this song next week. They also performed a chant called "Loose Tooth."
Third graders learned a song called "I've Been to Harlem." They will finish learning the tricky dance that goes with this song next week!
Fourth and fifth graders continued work on their recorders. Fourth graders should be working on their orange or green belt songs. Fifth graders should be working on their yellow or orange belt songs. Please make sure your fourth and fifth grade students remember to bring their music folders back to school each time they have music class!
