Week of March 8

Don't forget that all Spring Sing lyric sheets can be found in the "Spring Sing Song Sheets" section of the blog, under "Pages."  If your child has misplaced his/her copy, this is a great place to look!  Students have been informed of the password.

Feel free to stop by the music room during conferences; I would love to discuss your child's progress with you!  I will be available Wednesday evening from 4-8pm, Thursday from 9am-12pm and 3pm-5pm, and Friday from 8-8:30am.  Read on to find out about some of the exciting things that happened in the music room this week!

Kindergarteners played a singing game with a song called "Bee Bee Bumble Bee."  They figured out how to write out the rhythm to the song using quarter notes and eighth notes, and each student got to play the hand drum.

First graders enjoyed playing xylophones and boomwhackers with two of their Spring Sing songs.  They also reviewed dynamics including piano, forte, and crescendo and learned the movement for their final song!  If you happen to have any bug costumes, hats, headbands, etc. laying around the house that you wouldn't mind your child wearing in the Spring Sing, please send them to school with your student next week!

Second graders had fun learning the xylophone parts to two of their Spring Sing songs!  They also learned the movement to their final song.  If you happen to have any bug costumes, hats, headbands, etc. laying around the house that you wouldn't mind your child wearing in the Spring Sing, please send them to school with your student next week!

Third and fourth graders learned the vocal parts and the movements for their sixth Spring Sing song and started singing their seventh one.  If your third or fourth grader has not brought a small flashlight to school yet for the Spring Sing, please have him/her bring one as soon as possible.  The flashlight choreography takes a lot of concentration, so the more time they have to practice with their flashlights, the better!  Flashlights will be kept safely in the music room until after the Spring Sing, when they will be returned to students.  The flashlight should be small, so it can fit in your child’s pocket or attach to a belt loop or waistband for the rest of the performance. You should hear your third and fourth graders practicing their newest song, "The Good Time Family Band" several times at home before their next music class.  (This is their homework!)

Fifth graders began learning their fourth Spring Sing song, which is from "The Music Man."  They discussed this Broadway show, so if your child requests to watch the movie, this might just be why!
