Week of December 2

It was great to see many of you during conferences!  As always, please feel free to contact me at any point with questions, comments, or concerns about your child's music education.

Kindergarteners read a "So-me" story that taught them a new solfege pitch: la.  This is the highest of the three pitches they know.  They also learned a song and played instruments in new and creative ways to match the lyrics of the song.

First graders worked on their sight-singing this week.  They sight-read songs using the pitches sol, mi, and la and played instruments with them.  They also composed alternate lyrics and movements to one of the songs based on the rhyme scheme of the original song.

Second graders sang and played glockenspiels with a song called "See the Stars."  They then began learning "Rocky Mountain," which they will soon be recorded singing.  Each student will do a self-assessment based on his own recording.

Third graders learned about Irving Berlin and studied his song, "Alexander's Ragtime Band."  They also read a book called Barn Dance, and learned some basic square dancing steps.

Fourth graders did a great job with their recorder music this week.  Many students earned new belts and are now working on the green belt song.  Some are even working on the purple belt song!

Fifth graders had their full fifth grade rehearsal this week.  They did a great job!  Monday is their assembly for the school, so they should wear Wayne Thomas clothing or blue and white.  Wednesday is their evening performance.  Please see 5th Grade Concert Info for more information!

Stay warm!
