During the second to last week of school, students in first through fifth grades will participate in Sharing Day during music. Sharing Day is a time for students to perform for one another during their music class. They are not required to perform, but most choose to. Examples of student performances include: instruments like piano, guitar, violin, etc. that students play at home or in band/orchestra; skits; singing songs; dances; moves from karate or taekwondo; or anything else students would like to perform. If your child chooses to bring an instrument, he may drop it off in the music room when he arrives at school, and he may pick it up at the end of the day.
The Sharing Day schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, 6/3 - 4S
Wednesday, 6/4 - 5W, 3H, 3Li, 3Lo
Thursday, 6/5 - 1L, 5B, 4B, 2E, 2M
Friday, 6/6 - 1M, 1J, 5S, 4M, 2P
Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper’s afternoon class read a book called Bearful Bear and His New Moves and did a creative movement activity with this story. They began creating a list of sounds found in the book, which they will play with instruments next week. Students in Ms. Tepper’s morning class watched and danced to songs from around the world.
First graders completed their study of "Carnival of the Animals." They also did a creative movement activity using locomotor movements and began a folk dance that they will finish next week.
Second graders finished reading a book about Handel's life. They also researched Handel using the laptops. Many students said Handel is their new favorite composer.
Third graders are having a great time with their African drumming unit. They have now learned three drum parts and are working on keeping them steady when other parts around them come in and out.
Fourth graders are also enjoying their time African drumming. They have learned three drum parts and a cowbell part. They are working on not speeding up the tempo when the cowbell part comes in.
Fifth graders are doing a great job with their recorder unit. Many students have earned their purple belts. They are very eager to continue testing for new belts.
