Kindergarteners continued their work with Bearful Bear and His New Moves this week.  They chose unpitched percussion instruments that create sounds like the different characters in the story make.  Each student chose an instrument to play one character's sounds.  Every child also acted out the movements for the story.

First graders completed their folk dance with "Go Round the Mountain."  They then learned a song called "Paw Paw Patch" and performed another folk dance with this song.  They really enjoy folk dancing!

Second graders read a book called The Pout Pout Fish.  They learned a song that goes with this story and performed two Orff instrument parts to accompany the book.  They then worked on telling the difference between major keys and minor keys, which they will use as they learn the song for their second "Pout Pout" book.

Third graders continued African drumming this week.  They really enjoy playing question and answer phrases on the drums to start each class.  They continue to work on their three drum parts and the cowbell part.

Fourth graders also continued their African drumming unit.  They continued working on their three drum parts, the cowbell part, and the gankogui and agogo bell parts.

Fifth graders continued working on their recorder music this week.  I have spoken specifically with several students, suggesting that they consider joining band or orchestra next year (whether they were in it this year or not).  There are many extremely talented musicians in this fifth grade group, and it would be fantastic if they continued performing next year at Northwood!
