Week of April 27

Attention parents of 3rd and 4th grade students:  Make sure your calendars are marked for next week's Spring Sing performance!  The evening performance is on Wednesday, May 6 at 7pm at Elm Place Middle School.  Students will perform in an assembly for the school on Monday, May 4.  If you are unable to attend Wednesday evening's performance and would like to attend the assembly instead, please email Mrs. Crutchfield.  See the information that was sent home or access it under the "Important Dates" section of this blog for specific details.

Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper's afternoon class worked on sight-reading rhythms using quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests.  They also performed a poem, "Wee Willie Winkie," on Orff instruments.  Students in Ms. Tepper's morning class did not have music due to Wednesday's early release.

First graders worked on their Orff instrument technique and performance with The Little Red Hen.  They focused on holding their own parts when other people were playing different instrument parts near them.

Second graders did a rhythmic dictation activity with Ping Pong Pig.  They also composed four-beat rhythmic patterns to play on unpitched percussion instruments.  They began composing complementary rhythms, so that a second instrument can play the other part.

Third and fourth graders had their full grade level Spring Sing rehearsals this week.  They are doing a nice job with the music and are looking forward to performing for the school on Monday and for their families on Wednesday evening.  Most students play the parts of pirates, so they should wear red, black, and/or white on Monday and Wednesday.  A few students play the roles of the natives, and they should wear bright colors.

Fifth graders did a great job with their recorder music this week.  Most students are working very hard in class so they can earn their next belts.  Most fifth graders are working on their orange or green belt songs.  A few are already working on their brown belt songs!
