1st-5th grade classes will each have a "Sharing Day" coming up. This is their opportunity to perform for their classmates if they are interested. Nobody is required to perform for the class, but most students choose to. If your child plays an instrument, he may bring it in to perform for his classmates. If the instrument is too large to bring in, he may bring a video recording to share. Students often play instruments, do dances, singing, skits, etc. Sharing Days will take place on the following dates:
Friday, May 29 - 5W, 5S
Monday, June 1 - 4M, 5B
Tuesday, June 2 - 3H
Wednesday, June 3 - 1L, 4S, 4B
Thursday, June 4 - 1J, 1M, 2M, 2P, 2E
Friday, June 5 - 3Li, 3Lo
Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper's classes read The Very Lonely Firefly this week. They learned a firefly song that goes with the story and played tone bells and finger cymbals with the song and story. They used movement scarves to create fireflies to bring the story to life.
Second graders studied George Frideric Handel this week. They read a book about his life and began watching a movie about when he was composing the "Messiah."
Third, fourth, and fifth graders continued working with the African percussion instruments this week. They did many question and answer activities and each grade level began a different drumming ensemble piece. So far most classes have learned the first one or two drumming parts in their songs.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns OR if you have an idea for a workshop for Arts in Action 2016: ecrutchfield@nssd112.org.
