Week of November 16

Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music class this week!

Kindergarteners had a substitute on Friday, and they watched a movie featuring music from around the world.  They did creative movements to many of the songs.

First graders sang several turkey songs this week.  They focused on differentiating between the rhythm and the steady beat, and they composed simple songs inspired by things for which they are thankful.

Second graders sang a song called "Yummy Pumpkin Pie" this week.  They used unpitched percussion instruments and creative movement in a performance of this Thanksgiving song.

Third graders learned about Irving Berlin and studied his song, "Alexander's Ragtime Band."  Many students recognized this piece, which made it even more interesting for them.  Third graders were surprised to learn that they have many things in common with Irving Berlin!

Fourth graders are doing a nice job with their recorder music.  Most students are working on the songs they will play to earn their orange or green belts.  Keep up the great practicing!

Fifth graders began adding all of their instrument parts, speaking parts, and singing duets together with their songs.  They will have their full fifth grade concert rehearsal on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.  They should be practicing their parts at home.
