Attention parents of 3rd & 4th graders: Don't forget that next week is your child's Spring Sing! Students will perform in an assembly for the school on Monday during the school day and in the evening concert on Wednesday at Elm Place. If you are unable to attend the Wednesday evening concert and would like to attend the assembly instead, please email Mrs. Crutchfield: ecrutchfield@nssd112.org
Kindergarteners in Ms. Tepper's PM class did a percussion instrument exploration activity. They learned the names of over twenty different unpitched percussion instruments and had a chance to play each one. They really had fun with this activity! Students in Ms. Tepper's AM class did not have music this week due to Friday's early release.
Second graders focused on sight-singing this week. They worked on reading the pentatonic pitches on the staff, and sight-read three different songs. They played games with these songs, too. Next week, they will be recorded singing one of the songs for a singing assessment. They have been working very hard on meeting the singing goals they set back in December.
Third and fourth graders had their full grade level Spring Sing rehearsals this week. They were excited to find out how the songs sounded with three classes together. Many of the students were really surprised at how good they sounded! They are looking forward to performing with six classes in the concerts next week!
Fifth graders learned two chords this week: C and G7. Most students can play the C chord successfully, but the G7 is a bit more difficult. If your child is interested in practicing the ukulele at home, the Highland Park Public Library has ukuleles that can be checked out! We are fortunate to have such a great resource in our community!
