We had a great week at Wayne Thomas! Please read on to find out about some of the highlights from your child's Music class.
Kindergarteners sang and acted out a song called "Five Little Pumpkins." (See Mrs. Crutchfield's Twitter for a picture!) They also played a singing came called "Pumpkin, Pumpkin." They really enjoyed these activities.
Wednesday, November 9

Second graders learned about the difference between major and minor keys this week. They played a song in a minor key on the Orff instruments, and did a Halloween rhythm activity using Boomwhackers. They also studied Franz Joseph Haydn's "Surprise Symphony." They really liked this song! You should have received an information sheet with the final details of our upcoming informances at the beginning of the week. If you did not receive this or you need an additional copy, please email Mrs. Crutchfield. We hope to see you at the informances!
Monday, November 7
10:45-11:15 - 2 Getlin
12:35-1:05 - 2 Elman
Tuesday, November 8
10:45-11:15 - 2 Meekhof
Third graders learned about rondo form this week. They used unpitched percussion instruments to create a soundscape to a Halloween poem that they then performed in rondo form. They also played "Go! Cubs! Go!" on Boomwhackers!
Fourth graders in 4B and 4M began their playing tests for the first recorder song this week. Most students in these classes are now working on their second song, which they will play in order to earn their yellow belts. Students in 4S learned their first song, which they will perform for a playing test on Monday.
Fifth graders learned which extra parts they will have for their upcoming concert. Some students also started recess rehearsals this week. They are doing a great job with their songs so far! They will perform in an assembly for the school on Monday, December 5, and their evening performance is Wednesday, December 7 at Wayne Thomas.
