It was a very exciting week here at Wayne Thomas! We celebrated Halloween on Monday and celebrated the Cubs' success throughout the week. 1st and 2nd grade Informances are next week. I hope to see many of you there!
Kindergarteners used unpitched percussion instruments to create a soundscape to a book called If You're a Monster and You Know It. They did a nice job bringing the story and song to life with their instruments.

Second graders also reviewed their folk dance this week in preparation for next week's Informances. They are really looking forward to showing you some of the things they have learned so far this year!

Third graders studied a piece of Maori music from New Zealand this week. They learned about tititorea, which is a stick game that Maori kids play to help develop hand-eye coordination. They did a nice job with this activity!
Fourth graders are working very hard on their recorder music. Most fourth graders have earned their white belt, which signifies the completion of their first recorder song, "Hot Cross Buns." Many students are working on learning their second song, "Gently Sleep." A few students are working on their third song, "Merrily We Roll Along." Students should be practicing their instruments 5-10 minutes each night.
Fifth graders began adding their speaking parts, instrument parts, and solos to their songs this week. They seem to really enjoy learning how everything fits together. Many students had recess rehearsals this week.
