Read on to learn about some of the things your child learned in music this week!
Kindergarteners in the morning class read a book called Bearful Bear and His New Moves. They enjoyed using movements and instruments to bring this story to life. Students in the afternoon class finished watching a movie featuring music from the percussion group, Stomp.
Second graders continued working on a song called "Goin' to the Zoo." They focused on holding their own parts while playing six different unpitched percussion instruments with the song. They also added an Orff instrument part, as well.
Third graders worked on many echo activities using the African drums this week. These drums include djembes, a gathering drum, and three different types of tubanos. They are doing a great job!
Fourth graders also did a nice job African drumming this week. They performed several question and answer activities, and they began learning the drum parts for their first percussion ensemble.
Fifth graders concluded their ukulele unit this week. They have done a really nice job with this unit, and most students really enjoyed learning to play this string instrument. If they would like to continue playing over the summer, ukuleles are available for free check-out from the Highland Park Public Library.
