Week of May 8

Keep reading to find out about some of the things your child learned in music this week!

Kindergarteners watched a performance featuring members of the percussion group, "Stomp."  They really enjoyed this!

First graders focused on singing well this week.  They sang a song that they performed a partner dance with, and they played a singing game focusing on locomotor movements.

Second graders played a singing game called "Cut the Cake" this week.  They also began learning a song about a zoo.  This song uses percussion instruments to represent the sounds of the many animals found in the zoo.  They will continue working on this piece next week.

Third graders began African drumming this week.  They learned the names and playing techniques for each of the different types of drums.  They are very excited to be doing this unit!

Fourth graders also worked on African drumming this week.  They focused on playing the high and low tones on the drums and finding echo patterns.

Fifth graders continued playing the ukuleles this week.  A couple of students have successfully performed all of the songs and are now working on an independent extension project.  They are using a website called Hooktheory to perform popular songs on the ukuleles.
