Keep reading to learn about some of the highlights from your child's music class this week.
Kindergarteners worked on identifying and performing loud and soft sounds this week. They learned that the music word for loud is "forte," and the music word for soft is "piano." They used these terms to describe sounds that they hear every day, and they performed a song, playing instruments forte and piano.
First graders played a singing game with a song in question and answer form. They also used unpitched percussion instruments to create a soundscape to a book.
Second graders are in the process of working in groups to compose melodies for their songs about pizza. They are using dice to help them determine which pitches to use. They seem to really be enjoying this activity!
Third graders finished self-assessing their singing recordings this week. They set singing goals to work toward for next time. They were also very excited to begin their Spring Sing music!
Fourth graders worked in groups to compose movements to "Cotton-Eye Joe" that showed the form of the song. They then taught the movements to their classmates and performed the song with all movements together. They were also very excited to begin their Spring Sing music!
Fifth graders began their recorder unit this week. Some students have already tested on their first song and earned their white belts!
