Week of April 23

The 3rd & 4th graders will be performing their Spring Sing next week!  The evening performance is at 7pm on Wednesday, 5/2 at Elm Place Middle School.  All students and families are invited to attend the concert.

Kindergarteners in the morning class learned an Indonesian folk song called "Burung Kakatua" this week.  They read a story featuring this song and learned to sing it.

First graders completed their study of "Carnival of the Animals."  They also read a book called Abiyoyo and played over 20 different percussion instruments, which they will use with the book next week.  They sang a song called "Abiyoyo," which is featured in the book, too.

Second graders used their voices and unpitched percussion instruments with a book called Ping Pong Pig.  They began composing rhythms to accompany their singing of the song called "Ping Pong Pig."

Third and fourth graders had their full grade level Spring Sing rehearsals this week.  They are looking forward to their concert, which is next week.  Students will perform in an assembly for the school on Monday afternoon, and their evening performance is Wednesday at 7pm at Elm Place.  If you are unable to attend your child's evening concert and would like to attend the assembly instead, please email me ASAP at ecrutchfield@nssd112.org.  You can view the Spring Sing information sheet here.

Fifth graders did a nice job playing the ukuleles this week.  Many students have checked ukuleles out from the Highland Park Public Library to practice at home.  This wonderful resource is available at no cost.  I am happy to tune ukuleles for students if they check one out and it needs tuning.

As always, please free to contact me with any questions or concerns: ecrutchfield@nssd112.org.
