Find out what your child has been learning in music by reading below.
Kindergarteners read The Very Lonely Firefly and sang a song to go along with the book. They used finger cymbals and triangles to accompany their singing, and they used movement scarves to show the melodic direction of the song.
First graders performed a folk dance called "Alabama Gal." They really enjoyed this activity. They also studied J.S. Bach's "Little Minuet" and played a game that helped them feel the three beats per measure in the song.
Second graders focused on sight-reading songs using pitches in the pentatonic scale this week. They played several singing games with these songs and were recorded singing one of the pieces. They will grade their singing recordings next week and set a singing goal to work toward for the future.
Third and fourth graders were very excited to learn their Spring Sing parts this week. Recess rehearsals have begun, and students are working hard to put on the best performance they can.
Fifth graders began the ukulele unit this week. They worked hard on the C and G7 chords and learned a song using these chords. Some of the students are very excited to sing and play the ukuleles at the same time for their playing tests.
