Students in 1st-5th Grades participated in their class Sharing Days this week. We had dancers, singers, musicians, martial artists, comedians, actors, and gymnasts perform for their classes. Students were very excited to share their talents with their peers! See my Twitter account for pictures from Sharing Day: @ecrutchfield112
Kindergarteners read a book called Bearful Bear and His New Moves this week. They created movements to act out the story, and they used unpitched percussion instruments to bring the sounds in the book to life.
First graders continued playing the new music card games this week. They rotated through so each student played all three games. They seemed to enjoy these review games!
Second graders in Mr. Meekhof's class read a book called Giraffes Can't Dance. They began working in groups to compose movements in the various styles featured in the book: waltz, rock and roll, tango, cha-cha, and Scottish reel. Students in Mrs. Elman's class continued their study of George Frideric Handel by watching a movie about the time in his life when he composed "Messiah."
Third graders continued playing the African drums this week. They especially enjoy question and answer drumming activities because they get to share interesting facts about themselves while drumming.
Fourth graders played the African percussion instruments this week. They also took a survey to let me know their preferences for their 5th grade concert. They got to vote on the topic, the instruments they would like to have featured, and whether or not they want to write their own script.
Fifth graders played the African drums this week. Students in Mr. Hutchins' class will have their Sharing Day on Monday, 6/4 during music.
