It was a busy and exciting week here at Wayne Thomas! We celebrated Disability Awareness Week and had an author visit, too.
Kindergarteners performed read a book called Bearful Bear and His New Moves. They acted out the roles of the different characters in the story by doing the movements described in the book, and they began to brainstorm ideas for how to create a soundscape to the story.
First graders finished watching "Peter and the Wolf" this week. They shared their learning by completing a worksheet telling me which instrument played the theme for each character and what family that instrument belongs to. Students really enjoyed learning about Sergei Prokofiev's composition.
Second graders learned a new song called "I Will Pass This Shoe." They worked on their individual singing goals while singing the song, and they used movements to find the macrobeat. They then played a game with the song where they passed shoes around a circle on the macrobeat. They had a lot of fun with this activity.
Third and fourth graders had their full grade level Spring Sing rehearsals this week. They did an excellent job and are excited to share their learning with their friends and families next week. The dress rehearsal assembly will take place during the school day on Monday, and the evening performance is at 7:00 at Northwood on Wednesday, 5/1. See the information sheet that was sent home for more information: 3rd-4th Grade Concert Info
Fifth graders have really enjoyed learning their first song on the ukulele. They are using a plucking technique to play Beethoven's "Ode to Joy," and they have begun learning their first two chords: C and G7. A couple of students have already checked out ukuleles from the library so they can continue their learning at home!
