Students are getting back into the routine of the school year, and we had a great week! See your child's grade level below to learn about some of the highlights from their music classes this week.
Kindergarteners read a book called Happy Birthday Moon, which taught them about echos. They sang an echo song called "Time for Music," and played seven different percussion instruments with the song. They also performed a folk dance called "Seven Jumps."
First graders performed a partner dance called "Hello, Hello." They also played a singing game with a song called "Lucy Locket." They seemed to enjoy both of these activities!
Second graders performed a Colombian folk dance called "Caimarusa" this week. They discovered that it is in AB form, and they used both locomotor and stationary movements in the folk dance.
Third graders used sand blocks, boomwhackers, and Orff instruments to accompany their singing this week. They reviewed the different types of Orff instruments and will work on holding their own parts next week.
Fourth graders composed movements to their section of "Music Keeps Us Singing" this week. They also enjoyed playing a team-building game.
Fifth graders learned the movements for "Be Our Guest" and began singing "Hakuna Matata" this week. Many of the students are already familiar with these songs, and they are finding that they enjoy performing them even more because of that! All of their songs are available for them to practice on the Concert Music section of this blog.
